Driving enthusiasts looking for dramatic styling and race-inspired performance can look no further than Dodge Charger SRT8® and Dodge Challenger SRT8® 392. For 2012, Charger SRT8® ? the Dodge brand's iconic four-door fastback coupe ? brings to market the epitome of intelligent performance features. Challenger SRT8® 392 adds even more high-tech performance features to solidify its place as the brand's ultimate modern American rear-wheel-drive muscle coupe. Both of these amazing vehicles offer seat-of-the-pants straight-line acceleration, world-class ride and handling, high-performance braking and the most up-to-date technologies ? and they do it all without compromising fuel economy.
Exhilarating power is a prerequisite for every SRT8, and these two bad boys deliver! For 2012, Charger SRT8® and Challenger SRT8® 392 feature a 392 cubic-inch 6.4L HEMI V8, producing an awesome 470 horsepower and an incredible 470 lb-ft of torque. This engine provides substantially more horsepower and more torque ? especially at the low-end ? than the previous 6.1-liter HEMI. What is the result of all this power? Charger and Challenger can burn from zero-to-sixty in the four second range and power through the quarter-mile in the high 12's then cruise to a top-end of 175 miles per hour.
The 6.4-liter HEMI can be matched to a Tremec 6-speed manual (Challenger only) or a proven 5-speed AutoStick transmission that features new die cast aluminum steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Paddle shifters allow faster shifts and more control because the driver's hands stay on the wheel at all times. In "Auto" mode, the transmission automatically adjusts to an individual's driving style to provide smooth shifts and optimal fuel economy. This is perfect for everyday driving because the transmission will upshift if necessary to prevent the driver from over-revving the engine. In "Sport" mode, the driver may hold gears at redline and enjoy a more aggressive driving experience.
But all this power doesn't mean sacrificing fuel economy. A new Active Valve Exhaust System (Charger only) offers the benefit of Fuel Saver Technology, resulting in an estimated 25 percent fuel economy increase on the highway. Engaging over a wide rpm range, drivers can cruise at highway speeds while the engine operates in four-cylinder mode ? providing unexpected fuel economy for a big V8.
Here's how the new Active Valve Exhaust System works:
With both Charger and Challenger, drivers can choose suspension settings based on driving conditions or driver preference. They can choose a smooth, comfortable ride one minute and locked-down control the next. This is possible due to a new feature that Charger and Challenger share ? an Adaptive Damping Suspension system.
In standard "Auto" mode, the system provides a smooth and compliant ride.
In "Sport" mode, the system locks the shocks into firmer settings.
SRT vehicles are well-known for their world-class stopping power, and these two vehicles live up to that reputation. Challenger SRT8 392 and Charger SRT8 can go from 60 miles per hour to a full stop in a mere 117 and 120 feet, respectively. That's benchmark braking power thanks to high-quality Brembo components. Both Charger SRT8 and Challenger SRT8 392 feature:
At the November 16, 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, Dodge unveiled two new entries to the lineup ? the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8® Super Bee and the 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8® 392 Yellow Jacket. Both of these limited-edition vehicles expand upon the fun-loving Dodge muscle-car story and arrive in U.S. dealership showrooms in the first quarter of 2012.
